COVID-19 update

June 11, 2020 As the province begins to open access to business and activities, the current COVID-19 restriction status is getting even more difficult to keep up with.  Things are again changing quickly and I am very appreciative of the help I get from Thomas, our Alberta Health Services inspector.  He is always readily available to answer questions and help make sure that we continue to operate the Resort in a safe … and legal manner. The provincial government previously announced a multiple stage process for getting life back to normal.  Stage One was implemented earlier this summer and allowed

COVID-19 update

May 12, 2020 The summer-like weather that we have experienced over the past few weeks may have subsided for now, but the annual move to live outdoors has definitely begun for Albertans.  Recent announcements by our provincial government have provided a plan to loosen the COVID-19 restrictions on businesses.  It is worth noting that daily campgrounds are allowed to open, with restrictions that encourage campers to adhere to current public health orders and with published guidelines to suggest changes to how these places are operated. You may have also noticed that the provincial parks in Alberta have recently announced that

COVID-19 update and Guidelines

April 30, 2020 With the temperature finally increasing throughout the province, many people are starting to go outside more often to enjoy the fresh air, to get some exercise, and to head to the lake.  I was at the Resort last weekend and was pleasantly surprized at how many people were already at their lots airing out their RVs and getting things ready for the new season.  I was not surprized when the quiet returned again in the early evening as a slight breeze came across the frozen lake and dropped the temperature down, chasing everyone back inside.   As

2020 Newsletter

April 8, 2020 Looking around, it doesn’t really seem like it is time to start thinking about this summer at the lake yet. This month started with a foot of fresh snow at the Resort, and the thermometer was well below -20 degrees. The current restrictions make it difficult to plan anything at all this summer. In spite of all of this, the calendar tells me that we need to start planning the season. As always, I am looking forward to sitting on my lot or in my boat and enjoying the sun and life at the lake, even if

COVID-19 information

April 6, 2020 We all have to admit that the current COVID-19 isolation requirements could seriously affect how we enjoy our lake lots.  Everyone in the world has been advised to practice physical distancing to help reduce the spread of the virus.  Travelling is not recommended under the assumption that it increases the risk of spreading the virus.  Alberta provincial parks have been closed to vehicle traffic because of the inability to maintain the facilities.  We have been asked not to go to vacation homes in smaller communities and told that those who are feeling unwell should not go to

April 12, 2019 Once again the long Alberta winter is finally almost over.  The snow has started to disappear already, but the ice on the lake is not really showing any sign of melting yet.  Like last year, this season should be pretty relaxed.  Many of the new families who came to the Resort after the construction period have now settled in to their lot.  However, several families decided to change lots over the winter so don’t be too surprized if your friends from down the road are now right next door.  There were some vacant lots that resulted from

New Rural Address

November 8, 2018 As was recently announced by the Municipal District, they have re-assigned all rural (physical) addresses.  Late last month a new sign was installed near the entrance to the Resort showing that our new address is: 731024 Rge Rd 260 MD of Lesser Slave River #124, Alberta When directing people to the Resort, it is always good to tell them that we are on Fawcett Lake East Road, to help them make the right turn after passing through Smith. This information can be found on the Directions page of our website.  Note that this is our physical address,

2018 Newsletter

April 2, 2018 Although it took a little longer than usual, we ended up getting quite a bit of snow this winter which should help keep us from getting too dry this Summer. Spring is coming and I am pretty sure that Dale was joking when he said that the snow maybe won’t finish melting until July this year … I guess we will just have to wait and see. Thank you to him for submitting the Picture of the Week during the winter to keep us updated on conditions at the lake. Right now it is difficult to

Spring 2017 Newsletter

April 4, 2017 The snow is melting, the temperature is warming up and everyone is getting that feeling to go to the lake again. Sure, many people were at the Resort for short stays throughout the winter and it was a busy year for ice fishing, including another Family Day Ice Fishing Derby. Thanks again to Curt (lot 160) and friends for organizing this. However, there is nothing like that first day looking out across the open water. Watch for updates to the Picture of the Week and we will see how long it takes for the ice to melt
