Annual Campers Meeting – 2026

Each summer there is an Annual Campers Meeting held to welcome new people at the lake and talk about current issues for the season.  This is your chance to listen to presentations about events to be held or ideas to make life at the lake better.  If you would like a chance to talk about your own idea or to just have it added to the agenda, contact the Campers Club. Be sure to dress appropriately and bring a lawn chair as this is an outdoor meeting.  As always, it will be held on the Sunday of the May long

I am sure we are all hoping that summer weather is maybe here to stay for a while now finally.  With all of the freezing and thawing this winter, I find myself looking forward to spending time on the beach in some real summer sunshine. Back in 1979 when I was still a kid, my family first started coming to the Resort.  It is not very often when I come across someone who has a history at the lake that is longer than mine.  There are a few current Annual Campers who do remember some things from before then, but

Logging Update

Anyone who has been to the lake recently will have already seen the logging progress made in our area so far this winter.  Driving an ATV east from the entrance of the Resort is not the same experience that it used to be.  There is now a lot of, well … everything, that can be seen in the distance of the newly opened views.  However, it is surprizing to see wildlife playing in the rolling hills, and it is nice to see many small “islands” of mature growth still left standing here and there while passing along the trail to

Public Open House – Updated

The meeting was held as scheduled.  Presentations were made by Chris Valaire of the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River (#124), Tannis Blocka and Ryan Green of Alberta Forestry, and Chris Bélanger  and Mike Haire of Vanderwell Contracting.  There are 23 communities that have been selected to benefit from new Community Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program.  East Fawcett Lake is one of these that will benefit in the program’s first year.  There were almost two dozen attendees, who actively participated in the meeting asking numerous questions (see below).  The presentations and the answers to the questions were well received. Answers to

The sun is shining and the ice on the lake has disappeared.  I think everyone agrees that it is about time that the repeated freezing and melting of this past winter comes to an end, and that the grass finally starts to turn green. At least we had snow in Alberta this year. It wasn’t four feet deep on the Resort like in the past, but it was enough to safely burn the big Wood Waste pile.  We once again have lots of room for tree cuttings and used lumber.  As the name implies, this pile is not for plastic,

Early each year I go to the lake for short visit and a reminder of what a proper winter is like.  I admit that with temperatures of forty below, four hours of daylight, and four feet of snow, it only takes a couple of nights and I am ready to go home.  This year we did not experience a real winter at all and the truth is … I missed the snow.  As the summer approaches us, I hope that we do not have to start missing the rain too.  The lack of moisture on the ground has had us

As Dale has said, spring seems to be downloading pretty slowly this year.  However, my expectation is that the ice will be off of the lake earlier than usual and so, I am already looking forward to taking the canoe out for a paddle. It has been a very dry winter at the lake with only a couple feet of snow.  If the lack of precipitation continues then we will need to pay close attention to the wildfire conditions at and around the Resort.  Last season there were two wildfires found and contained by firefighters that made me uncomfortable.  Each

The most common thing that I have had people say to me over the winter is that they are looking forward to having a “normal season” at the Resort.  I certainly agree that it is time.  Time for all of this snow to melt, time for the summer to begin, and time for a beachside lemonade.  I can almost taste it already. As announced last spring, a new Picnic Shelter (called the Boat House) has been set up in Moose Park.  It will be painted this summer but it is ready to use and has now been added to the

Tree Day

To all Annual Campers, With the summer coming to an end it is time for each of you to take a good look around your lakelot and see if there are any trees that are in danger of falling and damaging your RV, cabin or other personal items at the lake.  If you see any trees that you are concerned about, then please let me know.  Even if the tree is not actually on your lot, if it is threatening your personal property then it needs to be looked at and maybe added to the list of danger trees.  Our
